About Krishna Temple Thava

Located about 500 ft above Naggar, this temple is situated very close to the remains of Thava Town in Kullu. This one-of-its’s-kinds temple in Kullu has its architecture influenced by the Shikara style, the most common Pahari architecture that one can witness throughout Himachal Pradesh. The outer walls of the temple have carvings all over it. Recently a road made with gravel stones has been created so that travelers could reach the temple easily. The base of this temple resembles with the carvings that were used during the Gupta period. The upper part of the temple is made with conical Shikara style. Due to the damages caused to the temple during the earthquake of 1905, the temple had to be rebuilt.

The original temple was built with stones and bricks and the bricks. Apart from having the temple of Lord Murlidhar(an idol of Lord Krishna playing flute), the temple also houses the idols of Lord Garuda, Devi Radha and Laxminarayana. The temple houses an idol of Lord Padamsambhav. Locals celebrate the marriage of Lord Padamsambhav with a local village deity and this occasion is celebrated with great pomp.

Dussehra is also celebrated with great joy at this temple premise. A small chariot remains on the south of this temple premise which is used as the vehicle of Lord Murlidhar on the Dussehra Day. The location of this temple is away from the chaos and hustle bustle of the city.
